Diagnosing Vascular Conditions With MRA

Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is a form of MRI scan used to detect and diagnose vascular diseases. Detailed images of the vessels in the brain, neck, chest, and other organs can help our doctors locate and diagnose an array of vascular conditions, such as aneurysms, arterial blockage/stenosis, and other problems that put patients at risk for stroke or heart attack.

Vascular MRI scans can provide a more detailed look at the body's vascular system than traditional x-rays or ultrasounds, and in many cases can be used instead of a CT in order to avoid the radiation. Our MRA scans are able to detect even the smallest changes in size and shape of the arteries and veins, allowing for an accurate diagnosis of vascular conditions including:

  • MRA for Stroke: MRA can detect any narrowing or blockage (stenosis) in the arteries supplying blood to the brain, which could lead to stroke if not treated.
  • Aneurysm Detection: Aneurysms are bulges or pouches that form in a weakened part of an artery wall, which may burst if not identified and treated.
  • Magnetic Resonance Venography: Magnetic Resonance Venography is used for the detection of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis. This can be another cause of stroke.

At Smart Scan Medical Imaging, we are dedicated to helping our patients find answers and solutions for their vascular issues. Contact us today to learn more about our MRA services and schedule your appointment.
